12 years ago today, Karim Benzema joined Real Madrid and has since become one of the club’s most prominent strikers. Apart from Santillana, no other player has made more appearances for Los Blancos than Benzema’s 559. Despite being placed on the transfer list a few times in his early years at the club, Benzema has remained a key figure for Real Madrid even after Ronaldo and Bale’s departures. In fact, he has become the team’s main focal point, ending the 2020/21 season with the second-highest goal tally of his career. At Euro 2020, he outshone his fellow Frenchmen, Mbappe and Griezmann, and finished just one goal behind the tournament’s top scorers. Even with Mbappe’s potential arrival, Benzema will remain Real Madrid’s attacking leader. It’s important that a contract renewal agreement is reached between Benzema and Real Madrid before the start of the season, extending his stay at the club until 2023.
